North Korea Timeline / 2017

Jan. 2017...Kim Jong Un says North Korea close to test-firing missile capable of hitting U.S.

Feb. 2017...China suspends imports from North Korea.  President Trump says he will deal with Pyongyang “very strongly”...Kim Jong Un’s half-brother murdered in Malaysia.

Mar. 2017...U.S. deploys THAAD missile defense system in South Korea...South Korea’s Park Geun-Hye ousted as president.

Apr. 2017...Trump warns of “major, major conflict”...China, U.S. vow to cooperate over N. Korea.

May 2017...Moon Jae-in elected South Korea president, seeks dialogue with Pyongyang.

June 2017...U.S. college student dies after release from detention in N. Korea...China, U.S. quarrel over China’s effectiveness at reining in Kim.

July 2017...N. Korea tests two intercontinental ballistic missiles, says entire U.S. is in range.

Aug. 2017...U.N. Security Council imposes the “most stringent” sanctions on N. Korea...N. Korea says it will “make the U.S. pay dearly”...Trump says threats will be met with “fire and fury”...N. Korea fires ballistic missile that flies over Japan.

Sept. 2017...N. Korea appears to have successfully tested a hydrogen bomb...they may or may not have ability to carry it.

Sept. 11, 2017...global equity markets rallied sharply after North Korea didn’t follow through on a threat to test another long-range ballistic missile...or was it just poor South Korean intelligence?  The rally is absurd if this is half the reason for it...the other being the damage from Hurricane Irma in the states wasn’t as bad as first feared...yet the damage is still very substantial.
