Coal
With all the talk of oil these days, it’s easy to forget just how vital coal is in fulfilling our energy needs. Plus, with advancements in clean-coal technology (an area I’m studying more on the investment side), the industry is going to be even more critical in the future.
So I thought we’d look at some real basic facts.
Following are the countries that produce and/or consume at least 5% of the world’s coal.
Production (12/05)
China ......38% of world’s total USA 20 Australia ...7 India ..7 Russia ...5 So. Africa .5
Consumption (12/05)
China .37% USA ...20 India 7
1995-2005 Consumption trends (million tons oil equivalent)
China – 695 to 1082 USA – 506 to 575 India – 143 to 213
Proved Reserves (12/05)
USA 27% Russia ..17 China ...13 India 10 Australia ....9 So. Africa ..5
And, for your information
USA Energy Consumption by Source (12/05 quadrillion Btu)
