Second Quarter Market Returns

Just a few figures on the second quarter, which in the U.S. was generally the best since 2003 for stocks. 

Q2
 
Dow Jones +11.0%
S&P 500 +15.2%
Nasdaq +20.0%
Russell 2000 +20.2% 

But with the exception of Nasdaq, for the first six months stocks were still treading water. 

YTD thru 6/30
 
Dow Jones -3.8%
S&P 500 +1.8%
Nasdaq +16.4%
Russell 2000 +1.8%
 
And for the year, 6/30/08-6/30/09
 
Dow Jones -25.6%
S&P 500 -28.2%
Nasdaq -20.0%
Russell 2000 -26.3% 

Meanwhile, for the first six months some other market returns. 

London FTSE -4.2%
Frankfurt DAX -0.0% [down 2 pts.]
Toronto Comp. +15.4% [heavily energy weighted]
Tokyo Nikkei +12.4%
