Time to update some key figures as part of the three-year anniversary of the March 9, 2009, low in the equity markets.

All the following is based on closing prices. I added the low for the week of 10/3/11 for further perspective.

3/9/11…..1320
10/3/11....1099
3/9/12…..1370

3/9/09……6547
3/9/11…..12213
10/3/11…10655
3/9/12…..12922

But what of the leading international indices? [using S&P high of 3/24/00 as benchmark date]

London FTSE

10/9/02…3742
10/9/07…6615

3/9/12…..6880

Tokyo Nikkei

10/9/02…..8539
10/9/07…17159
3/9/09……7086
3/9/11…..10589
10/5/11…..8382
3/9/12……9929

By the way, it was way back on 12/29/89…yes, 1989…that the Nikkei hit its all-time high of 38916. By 4/2/90, it was already down to 28002, and the rest is history.

*So…look at the performance of all six of the above since the spring of 2000. Only the Dow Jones is up.
